How much space will GTA Remastered Trilogy take up?

Rockstar has done a masterful job at distracting its fans. Just a few weeks after banning users for making GTA VI on its YouTube channel and getting bombarded for delaying the next-gen versions of GTA V, the studio decided to reveal the GTA Remastered Trilogy. The bundle, which contains remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, will release on November 11, will be available on multiple platforms. So far, most audiences are happy seeing the classic GTA games brought back to life on modern consoles. Although they aren’t full-on remakes, the remasters do a great job at giving the aging games a fresh coat of paint. With that said, remastering such titles and making sure that they’re optimized to run on consoles like the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, doesn’t come without a price. In this case, the price that audiences will have to pay is a much larger install size. Whereas the original games barely take up more than 7GB of space, the remastered GTA trilogy will need as much as 49GB of room on the Xbox Series S/X and the Xbox One. What is perhaps most surprising here is that the GTA Remastered Trilogy will only occupy 25.4GB of storage space on the Nintendo Switch. On the other hand, there’s no information yet on how much space the bundle of remastered GTA games will take up on the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. However, the game’s file size should hover around 45GB to 50GB on both the PlayStation consoles, give or take. At the moment, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed if it is going to make the games available for sale individually. We do know that San Andreas will be available at launch on the Xbox Game Pass, but the lack of individual pricing suggests that this is more of a marketing play to get people to buy the entire bundle than anything else. Going back to the file size discrepancy, some are speculating that it’s because the game’s Switch version won’t be as detailed. This makes a lot of sense. Nintendo Switch versions of multiplatform games almost always consume less space. Except, Nintendo Switch versions of games don’t always consume less space. For example, The Witcher 3 on the PC takes up around 35GB and nearly 90GB with all the expansions and DLCs installed. On the other hand, The Witcher 3 only needs 32GB of space on the Nintendo Switch. Here’s hoping that the smaller file size of the remastered GTA trilogy bundle on the Switch doesn’t translate to a drastic visual difference when compared to the console and PC versions.
