A week after confirming the existence of the Basim-led Assassin’s Creed installment, Ubisoft officially unveiled a trailer for the upcoming “back-to-basics” stealth-action title that’s set to come out sometime next year. The trailer sees Mr. Main Character Energy become a master assassin after starting out life as a scoundrel and street thief. Basim Ibn Ishaq can be heard pledging the familiar Assasin’s Creed oath, otherwise known as The Creed, as he stalks and stabs one enemy after another. The game takes place decades before 2020’s Valhalla and will focus on the series’ stealth gameplay, similar to the first set of Assassin’s Creed games. While the Mirage trailer is new, the itself isn’t. We first heard about Mirage when it was still “Rift” and originally meant to come out later this year. The game, which started life as an expansion to Valhalla, was part of Ubisoft’s slate of delayed games that also included Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, among several others. Since then, we’ve heard a lot of rumors about Mirage. Ubisoft eventually caved in and confirmed Mirage after leaked info started flooding the internet in late August. In a way, we sort of knew that Basim would play a huge role in future Assassin’s Creed games following the events of Valhalla. Most likely, Basim will serve as the lead character of the next trilogy. Unfortunately, Ubisoft didn’t give us a release date for Mirage. If we believe Jason Schreier (which we probably should at this point), Ubisoft is eyeing a “spring 2023” window. This means that the game could hit store shelves anytime between March to June next year. In the meantime, Ubisoft has already offered a collector’s edition for Mirage. It comes with a deluxe version of the game along with a DLC pack inspired by Prince of Persia. In addition to this, the most expensive variant of Mirage comes with a Basim figurine, Basim’s brooch, as well as a steelbook case, a selected soundtrack, and a map of Baghdad, among others. We’re still waiting on confirmation that a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed game will be included as DLC for Mirage. The lack of info at Ubisoft Forward suggests that this isn’t true, but we won’t lose hope just yet.
