More than two decades after everything started, the journey is almost over. Diesel made the upcoming end more abundantly clear after dropping details about the first half of the series finale. According to Diesel’s latest Instagram post, the cameras have officially started rolling on Fast Ten (or is it Fast X?). The news comes just weeks after series newcomer, Jason Momoa, started sharing news of his flamboyant but villainous character for the highly anticipated film. The name, Fast Ten, makes sense as the franchise circles back to where everything started to diverge from street racing to heist action involving cars. 2011’s Fast Five is considered as where things started taking a turn for the then-already successful set of movies that, at the time, predominantly featured car culture and drag racing, among others. It was also the first to welcome Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs to the mix, who will not be returning for the final two movies. It remains to be seen if the callback is also related to the presumed return of the late actor, Paul Walker, and his character, Brian O’Conner. Paul Walker passed away in 2013, while filming 2015’s Furious 7, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Universal Pictures later completed Walker’s remaining scenes by using CGI as Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb Walker, standing in as body doubles. In the Fast and Furious universe, Walker’s character is still alive with Dom’s words in the final moments of 2021’s F9 hinting at this return. We’re interested to find out how the studio will achieve this. Then again, the studio has done it before and the technology has improved since. We’d be surprised if Walker’s “return” amounts to nothing more than just a cameo following a hype-inducing tease. Of course, this is just the start. Each installment takes tons of work and Fast X is not any different. If anything, Diesel will want to make sure that his last outings as Dom Torreto are extra special. The good news is that Diesel will have reinforcements. In addition to Momoa, fellow DC alum, Daniela Melchior and Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel lead, Brie Larson, have both signed on to play undisclosed roles for Fast 10. In other news, it appears that the Fast and Furious actor already has his eyes set on other franchises after he wraps up his iconic stint as the Torreto patriarch. Diesel previously teased that another one of his passion projects, the Riddick films, might be getting a fourth entry.
