What’s the caveat with Verizon’s PS5 stocks?
For some reason, the American wireless network operator, Verizon, thought that it would be a good idea to start selling PS5s this holiday season. But, beggars can’t be choosers, and if you’re struggling to get a PS5, this might just be your chance. Unfortunately, Verizon’s PS5s come with a caveat. According to Verizon spokesman Chris Serico, the company will only sell a “very limited quantity” of the PS5 consoles. In addition to this, the stocks will only be available “in a handful of pilot stores” as well as online. More importantly, if you’re looking forward to buying a PS5 online from Verizon, you’ll have to make sure that you have an active service with Verizon first. If it’s any consolation, anyone can buy a PS5 from Verizon in-store. The only problem is that Verizon hasn’t revealed just yet which stores will offer the PS5s. If you check out Verizon’s website, you’ll see that the carrier will sell the PS5 at retail price. This means that you can buy the PS5 Digital Edition (the one with no disc drive) for $400 and the standard PS5 model (the one with a disc drive) for $500. It will be interesting to see if Verizon’s “paywall” is enough to make sure that only real people can buy a PS5 from them. Online retailers have struggled for nearly a year trying to keep inventory available for actual gamers and not scalpers who use bots to clear out inventories in a matter of minutes. By requiring buyers to have an active Verizon account before buying a PS5, Verizon is perhaps hoping that the right hands get their PS5s.
