Activision just revealed that Treyarch will lend Sledgehammer Games a hand with Call of Duty: Vanguard, as the studio is set to develop its own Zombies mode specifically for Vanguard. This latest change in Treyarch’s usual approach with its Zombies mode comes on the heels of yet another welcome change earlier this year.

Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games team up for Vanguard Zombies mode

Treyarch most recently worked on Black Ops Cold War, for which the studio also released its latest Zombie content. However, unlike its previous games, Treyarch switched things up for Black Ops Cold War. The Zombies mode did not come as paid DLC. For Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch decided to release the Zombie content as part of the game’s free seasonal updates. On top of introducing the Zombies mode to Black Ops Cold War for free, Treyarch also added a new mode, Outbreak. In this mode, players and zombies must complete random objectives as they fight their way through a ginormous open area. With that said, adding Treyarch’s Zombies entries to Vanguard is good news for fans who’ve been following the mode’s narrative. According to Activision, Treyarch’s Zombies mode for Sledgehammer will fit right into the game’s timeline. Instead of following up on the events of Black Ops Cold War Zombies, Vanguard will tell the origin story of the Zombies mode. Activision added that this new Zombies mode for Vanguard will tie directly into the Zombies mode for Black Ops Cold War.

What’s next for Call of Duty: Vanguard?

As promised earlier, Activision went ahead and revealed Call of Duty: Vanguard on August 19. The game’s full reveal gave audiences a glimpse of what to expect from the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. This includes information about the single-player campaign, which will star four distinct soldiers from around the world banding together to form a new special forces team for World War 2. In addition, Activision also revealed that Vanguard will have a new multiplayer mode and up to 20 multiplayer maps available at launch. If Activision continues with its current path, next year’s collaboration will include even more of its multiple Call of Duty studios. We might see Treyarch continue the Zombies narrative with the next Call of Duty game and a campaign from Infinity War with Raven Software working on the multiplayer.
