Ubisoft first announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2020. Since then, Ubisoft has pushed the game’s release date twice. The last we heard is that the studio has delayed the game indefinitely. But, the current update isn’t as bad as it sounds. For one thing, Ubisoft is giving the project back to its original creator. According to an official statement on the official Prince of Persia Twitter account, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai will take leave as Ubisoft Montreal takes over the development of the game. It’s worth noting that Ubisoft Montreal is the principal developer for some of the French publisher’s biggest franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs, among several others. As one of the largest game development studios in the world, the company is hinting that the scope and scale of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake have grown beyond the capacities of its smaller studios. Unfortunately, Ubisoft still hasn’t given the Prince of Persia remake a release date. Most likely, the switching of development studios will push back the game’s launch by at least a year or two. The safest bet here is that Ubisoft will roll out the remake of the 2003 classic by 2023 if not 2024. Speaking of Ubisoft, rumors suggest that the multi-national gaming giant is planning on hosting a massive showcase later this year. If we’re lucky, we’ll see footage of the Prince of Persia remake by then as well as Project Q.
