As revealed at the TUDUM 2022 event, Netflix will welcome the first The Witcher prequel in three months, specifically, on Christmas. So, in case you’re wondering what you’ll be doing before and after Christmas dinner, you’ll be watching Blood Origin.

— Netflix Geeked (@NetflixGeeked) September 24, 2022 Blood Origin will take audiences to a time before the Continent became what it is as described by Andrzej Sapkowski in his novels. It explores the calamitous event, Conjunction of the Spheres, and its effects on the world around. Sophia Brown will star as Éil, a former elven warrior who gave up arms to take up music, in the prequel alongside Laurence O’Fuarain’s Fjall and Michelle Yeoh as Scian, a swordmaster in search of a missing blade. The unlikely trio will band together as they try to make sense of a new world where Elves, men, and monsters, will all have to find a way to live together even if it isn’t always in peace. The show will also explain the origins of the Witchers, which, of course, are pretty much what the entire franchise is all about. According to Netflix, Minnie Driver will join Blood Origin as the show’s narrator. Driver will play Seanchai, a shape-shifting time traveler who can also travel to other worlds. Judging by how popular fantasy show prequels such as House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have become, Netflix is probably hoping that Blood Origin will follow suit.
