The Witcher: Blood Origin is a spin-off of The Witcher series that will serve as a prequel to the Netflix series that has already released two seasons on the streaming platform. Netflix announced the four-episode limited series last July. It will be set 1,200 years before the events of the first season of The Witcher and depict the creation of the first Witcher as well as the events leading to the “Conjunction of the Spheres.” It will also explore the ancient Elven civilization before its demise. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will continue in her current role as the executive producer, while screenwriter Declan de Barra will serve as the showrunner. Earlier in 2021, Jodie Turner-Smith and Laurence O’Fuarain joined the cast, but later in April 2021, Jodie Turner-Smith departed from the cast due to scheduling conflicts. Since then, Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Brown have joined the cast. Laurence O’Fuarain stars as Fjall, a warrior sworn to protect the king; Michelle Yeoh as Scian, a nomadic sword-elf; and Sophia Brown as Eile, a traveling musician. In October of this year, Netflix announced season 3 will be Henry Cavill’s last appearance as Geralt of Rivia with Liam Hemsworth replacing him in Season 4. This news came shortly after Henry Cavill’s cameo in the post-credits of Black Adam, a scene that marked his return to the DC Extended Universe as Superman. Speaking of Netflix’s The Witcher series, there’s growing interest in the fan petition to bring Cavill back and kick the showrunners off the show. More than 218,000 fans have signed the petition and it’s now on track to reach 300,000 later this month.
