Following the conclusion of the first season in late November 2020, the second and final season is going to air on October 3, 2021. All of this was confirmed during Comic-Con@Home 2021’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond panel.

Why is The Walking Dead: World Beyond ending so early?

Right from the onset of the series, the showrunners and executives always envisioned it as a “two-series close-ended series”, so the early ending shouldn’t come off as a huge surprise. According to the panel moderated by Chris Hardwick, the new season’s episodes will air on AMC+. On top of this, a new Talking Dead will release following every episode. The same panel featured the majority of the cast and characters of the show. This includes the show’s creator, Scott M. Gimple, as well as Jelani Alladin and Joe Holt, both of which were confirmed as series regulars for the upcoming season. In addition to the premiere date, the talk also saw the new Season 2 trailer premiere. To no one’s surprise, it featured the undead munching on their favorite food. It also follows the characters of Felix Carlucci (Nico Tortorella), Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale), and Will Campbell (Jelani Alladin) as they talk about helicopters from the zombie-infested Omaha dropping off blood-soaked supply containers. It appears that Season 2 will delve deeper into the Civic Republic Military as well. To refresh your memory, this is the same group that took Rick Grimes in the original The Walking Dead TV series. Speaking of The Walking Dead, at the same Comic-Con 2021 panel Scott revealed when World Beyond takes place in the universe’s timeline. He explained that the two-season series is set following Season 7 of Fear The Walking Dead but before Season 11 of The Walking Dead. This implies that none of the spin-offs have explored events following the conclusion of the original show. Given the timeline, it will be interesting to see where the events of Fear the Walking Dead will pick up after its seventh season launches in October 2021.
