Thankfully, Sony is taking the necessary steps to eliminate this problem. The next major PS5 firmware update “might” include 1440p support after Sony confirmed that it is rolling the feature out to beta testers starting today, July 28. Starting today, PS5 beta testers can select between four resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 1440p, as well as 2160p. Sony explains that the PS5 will downsample the graphics quality from higher resolutions if you play games on 1440p. This will result in crisper and sharper image quality. But, if the game supports 1440p, then gamers will enjoy native 1440p output, which is even better. Unfortunately, Sony still hasn’t found a way around adding VRR support to 1440p as the feature will still be limited to 1080p and 2160p. The latest PS5 software update will also bring other new features. Players can use gamelists to create up to 15 different lists and organize their games. In addition to this, there are new social features like letting players ask friends if they want to share their screens. Players will also start receiving notifications if and when they can join an ongoing game. Finally, the PS5 software update will let players send stickers and voice messages to other members in the same party. If all goes well, all PS5 owners can enjoy the same features in a few months. In the meantime, you might want to check out what’s coming to PS Plus subscribers next month. The free games lineup for PS Plus subscribers this August will include Yakuza: Like a Dragon as well as two others. Meanwhile, all the mainline Yakuza games will be joining the PS Plus games catalogue this year.
