Just in case you missed it, Techland went ahead and uploaded a short 9-second teaser for Dying Light 2 on its Twitter account. However, as short as it was, it was also ingenious. Not only was the clip creepy and weird, but it also perfectly showcased the stark contrast between the lifeless tranquility of the daytime in the game compared to the nightmarish silence of the night.

New Dying Light 2 Teaser Drops Out of Nowhere

So far, Techland has done an excellent job dispelling any previous rumors regarding Dying Light 2. After confirming that the sequel to 2015’s Dying Light is going to release this 2021, Techland has slowly been revealing important details about the game. This includes holding a recent AMA where Techland talked about how Dying Light 2 will not feature any returning character from the first game, among others. With that said, one thing that stood out from Techland’s latest AMA is how the first game’s protagonist, Kyle Crane, will play a huge role in Dying Light 2. Considering that Kyle is not expected to appear in Dying Light 2, this seems to hint that the canon ending to the first Dying Light was that Crane survived the events of Haran only to spread the virus to the rest of the world. If that is indeed true, the dark and foreboding tone of Techland’s recent teaser seems fitting. Speaking of the teaser, it manages to accomplish one thing that many horror games fail to do, and that is to scare you without necessarily doing anything. Even without a single appearance of a zombie, the 9-second teaser does an excellent job of setting the tone for the sequel. Perhaps, more importantly, the words “Save the City” and “Are You Dying 2” are related to the aforementioned events of Dying Light. We wouldn’t be surprised if Techland’s earlier statement was meant to throw fans off of the possibility that Kyle will return as a villain in the sequel. If this is true, then we’re hoping that Techland does Kyle’s transformation justice. After all, the first game’s protagonist doesn’t seem like the type to be a bad guy at all. But, of course, the old saying does go that “you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain”. In this particular case, with Dying Light 2 set in the future, it is possible that the passage of time has not been kind to Kyle. Either way, only the release of the upcoming sequel will dispel all these rumors and confirm Kyle’s fate.
