Just days after a particularly privy anonymous account hinted that The Last of Us Remake was coming out in September, the original game’s director, Neil Druckmann, confirmed it himself at the recently-concluded Summer Game Fest. According to Druckmann, a lot of work was put into remaking 2013’s The Last of Us, which will come out as The Last of Us Part I. It’s not just about making the nearly-decade-old title look better with more fidelity, but Naughty Dog also wanted to make sure that the remake would retain the essence of the original game as well. In addition to better graphics, The Last of Us Part I’s AI is better and it will support 60 frames per second at launch with better controls. Also, for the PS5, The Last of Us will support PS5-exclusive features like 3D audio, haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers, amongst other features. TLDR; The Last of Us Part I will be the true definitive version of The Last of Us. Without taking a look at the trailer, it’s easy to judge The Last of Us Part I as a way to make quick cash for Naughty Dog. After all, with HBO working on a live-action adaptation, a PS5 and PC version of one of the most influential titles of the past two decades is effectively free advertising for the show. But, if you compare how The Last of Us looks on the PS5 right now with the trailer, you’ll see why the remake had to happen. Even if The Last of Us isn’t the oldest game, it’s showing signs of age already. Remaking The Last of Us guarantees that an entirely new generation of gamers can enjoy the game on more platforms than before. If you’re curious to know more about the pricing, The Last of Us Part 1 will be sold in three different editions: Standard ($69.99), Digital Deluxe ($79.99), and Firefly. The Digital Deluxe will come with several additions, including weapon skins and a speedrun mode, among others. Meanwhile, the significantly more expensive Firefly edition will come with a reprint of The Last of Us: American Dreams #1 - #4 comics, a Steelbook display case, as well as “early in-game unlocks.” Sony had already remastered The Last of Us before, but the remake does look a lot better. If nothing else, we’re just glad to know that The Last of Us is finally headed to the PC. Fingers crossed, The Last of Us Part 1 will be here on or before March 2023. Speaking of PC ports, we’re still awaiting word from Sony on when Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection will arrive on desktops. After this, fans can look forward to Marvel’s Spider-Man in October and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales soon after. Also, Returnal, Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon Forbidden West are all expected to be headed to the PC at some point in the next few months as well.
