To help celebrate the film’s impending launch in theaters, Sony just dropped a new IMAX poster that shows the classic Ecto-1 vehicle and proton pack in all its former glory.

Afterlife aims to breathe new life into the Ghostbusters franchise

Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, has stepped in to direct the sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. The film stars Paul Rudd alongside McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, with a story that aims to pay homage to the classic films while also introducing the series to a new generation. Based on the original trailer, the story of Afterlife follows a single mother and her two children who stumble upon a dilapidated Ecto-1 that still has a fully functional proton pack. Now, we’ve got another look at the film, courtesy of the movie’s IMAX poster.

— IMAX (@IMAX) November 1, 2021 From what we can make out of the IMAX poster, franchise newcomer McKenna Grace is aiming the proton pack at something huge. This suggests that the threat the characters are facing in Afterlife is no joke and it’s probably why they’re going to need the help of the OG cast members. Of course, because this is the IMAX poster, Sony couldn’t help but outline all the benefits of seeing the upcoming supernatural comedy film in IMAX theaters. The poster explains that watching the movie in MAX will include better images, a larger screen, and a more immersive overall watching experience that’s quite unlike what you could have in standard theaters. Unfortunately, Sony is keeping the story of Afterlife under lock and key. We can only speculate that the characters are going to face off against something that they’ve never had before. Thankfully, the old Ecto-1 and proton pack are still working fine, or at least, that’s what the image suggests. But, if not, then it will certainly be interesting to see how the movie deals with the threats that are capable of splitting the ground wide open. Thankfully, the wait to see Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis, back in action isn’t too long. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is expected to release exclusively in theaters on November 19.
