While they have done a great job at providing post-game content for Skyrim, with the modding community filling in any holes that Bethesda might have left, one can’t deny that players were expecting Bethesda to have released more information about The Elder Scrolls 6 by now. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently just as much of an enigma as it was when first revealed back in June 2018. If it’s any consolation though, Todd Howard is talking a bit more about the next The Elder Scrolls game.
Todd Howard talks Indiana Jones Game and TES VI
It might have been three years since Bethesda revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI is real, amidst fears that the studio no longer would be working on a sequel to Skyrim after the release of The Elder Scrolls Online. However, this doesn’t mean that the game has been in development since. As it turns out, Bethesda is all hands on deck working on Starfield instead. Starfield is, to put it simply, a big deal to Bethesda. It’s their first universe in more than two decades, so you’d understand why Bethesda is doing everything it can to make it just as good as its other franchises, namely, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Now that a release date for Starfield has been confirmed, Todd Howard is more open to talking about The Elder Scrolls 6. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Howard talked about several things, many of which aren’t related to The Elder Scrolls. He mentioned how he first pitched the Indiana Jones game way back in 2009. However, the two biggest pieces of news to come from that sit down is that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be using the same engine as Starfield and that it is still in its “design phase.” As we mentioned earlier, there was a reason why Bethesda revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 so early. The studio wanted to reassure fans that it wasn’t going to abandon its single-player games just because of Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online. Bethesda has even more of an incentive now that the former has proven to be a colossal failure. TLDR; the early The Elder Scrolls 6 reveal was Bethesda’s way of saying “relax guys, it’s still coming”. Unfortunately, this is much easier said than done. Even though fans are understandably hyped for Starfield, it’s not The Elder Scrolls. The good news is that, as soon as Bethesda is finished working on Starfield, it might start dedicating a bit more resources towards working on The Elder Scrolls. The bad news is that this might not happen until 2023/2024.
