Techland apologizes to fans for the Dying Light 2 delay

After several teasers and updates, Techland finally confirmed back in May that it will release the Dying Light sequel, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, in December 2021. Naturally, this got fans excited, especially after a new trailer that was released at Gamescom 2021 showcased the game’s much-improved parkour mechanics. However, it appears that fans will just have to suffer for a little longer.

— Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) September 14, 2021 According to Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka, the upcoming zombie title is going to release on February 4, 2022 instead. Techland’s CEO released a statement on Twitter explaining the delay. According to Marchewka, Dying Light 2 is “nearing the finish line.” He added that “the game is complete” and that the team is busy “playtesting it”. But, because of the scale of the project, Techland asked for more time to “polish and optimize” Dying Light 2 so that it can bring it to the level that they envisioned for the game. TLDR; Techland needs more time to work on Dying Light 2. If it’s any consolation, Marchewka did promise fans that the studio is going to release a preview of the console and PC versions of Dying Light 2 in October. Whether this will come in the form of a new trailer or a playable demo remains uncertain. We’re hoping that it’s the latter. It’s been a long road for Dying Light 2 to get here. Techland first announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018 and intended to launch the game in spring 2020. Since then, Techland has gone radio silent until earlier this year when it started posting updates about the game. In addition to this, Techland has done its best to do fans right by releasing more free content for Dying Light, as well as porting the game to the Nintendo Switch. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see how well Dying Light 2 does against a stacked February lineup. Sifu, Horizon Forbidden West, Evil Dead: The Game, and the Saints Row reboot, are all expected to release in February 2022.
