When is the Dying Light 2 Release Date?
As promised in an earlier teaser, Techland talked more about Dying Light 2 in their recent Dying 2 Know stream. During the 31-minute long first episode of the Dying 2 Know series, Techland revealed a lot of important information about Dying Light 2. This includes the brand new name for the sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, as well as the release date. According to Techland, the Dying Light 2 release date is set for December 7, 2021. The release date confirms Techland’s earlier statement that Dying Light 2 is still going to release in 2021. However, the name change comes as a bit of a surprise, especially for those who haven’t been following leaks and rumors closely. With that said, the release date and name weren’t the only things that Techland talked about in its first-ever Dying 2 Know episode. Techland also revealed a bunch of other important gameplay and story information about Dying Light 2. This includes the new protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, and that Dying Light 2 is set twenty years following the events of the first Dying Light game. Another important detail revealed by Techland is that, in Dying Light 2, your choices as Aiden will help shape the world around you. Now, if you happened to miss out on the first Dying Light, don’t worry. Techland also revealed during the first Dying 2 Know episode a brand new Platinum Edition of the original Dying Light. As per the earlier leaks, Dying Light: Platinum Edition will come with the base game and all of the DLC that’s been released for it. It also includes a bunch of cosmetic bundles, making it the definitive way to experience the first Dying Light game.
What’s Next for Dying Light 2?
With more than six months separating now and the actual release date for Dying Light 2, Techland will be wise to spend this time polishing gameplay. This is especially the case for how it plans to incorporate player decisions and their effect on the in-game world. The original Dying Light was already an excellent if underrated twist on the open-world zombie genre. However, the sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, feels a lot more ambitious. But, if pulled off correctly, Dying Light 2 could do to zombie games and video games, in general, what Half-Life did for first-person games. Then again, we’ve seen just how easily a game can fall short of what it was initially billed as. We need not look further than Cyberpunk 2077 as an example of an end product that didn’t quite match up with the end vision. So far though, Techland seems like it is on the right track. Here’s to hoping that Techland stays on it until Dying Light 2: Stay Human releases on December 7.
