Are PlayStation owners in for a big month this February?

The last time that Sony held the State of Play was back in October 2021. However, it was a rather uneventful showcase, unlike the previous one where Sony officially revealed God of War: Ragnarok. Because of this, fans have been wondering what Sony has planned for PlayStation owners this year. According to Tom Henderson, Sony’s next outing will be a “pretty big one” that might include several blockbuster announcements. Henderson isn’t from Sony nor is he an official source. At the same time, he is fairly reliable. Many associate him with information related to Battlefield and Call of Duty.

It’ll probably be State of Play, but it has the potential to be a pretty big one IMO. pic.twitter.com/Si0QSY7PeZ — Tom Henderson (@Tom_Henderson) January 9, 2022 In addition to Henderson, AccountNGT also hints at a PlayStation event that’s coming early this year. Although he didn’t say a particular month, unlike Henderson, holding one in February does line up with Sony’s schedule. It’s worth remembering that Sony also held a State of Play event back in February 2021, which was a pretty big deal as well. If Sony intends to stick to a consistent schedule, a February 2022 State of Play would make sense.

What else does Sony have planned for 2022?

2021 was a relatively mellow year for Sony as far as exclusives. This isn’t to say that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Deathloop, and Returnal, weren’t great games - two of them even got nominated for GOTY 2021 - but PS5 owners didn’t exactly get a lot of love. From what we know of so far, 2022 is a bit better, but the PS5 library is still a bit thin in the “must-have” department. Horizon: Forbidden West is set to release in February, but it’s available on both the PS4 and the PS5. The same goes for God of War: Ragnarok, which is reportedly due to come out later this year, as well as Gran Turismo 7. Sony needs to throw PS5 owners an exclusive bone or so to speak, especially if the studio wants the PS5 to keep on breaking sales records. If Sony pushes through with its showcase this February, we’re hoping that they at least give audiences a glimpse of Final Fantasy XVI or Final Fantasy VII Remake Part II or maybe even Project Spartacus.
