Contrary to earlier rumors that a State of Play event will be held on the 30th, Tom Henderson is saying that the developers of 2018’s God of War and its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, are scrambling together something positive to tide fans over until the follow-up comes out. We’ve heard from multiple sources already that the fifth mainline God of War game is still slated for a release this year, so this would line up with all the earlier leaks. Meanwhile, fans aren’t exactly complaining. Most are more than happy just to know when Ragnarok will be coming out. Most are speculating that Santa Monica Studio will publish an official blog post on the PlayStation blog containing important info like a release date, pre-order details as well as a Collector’s Edition. If we’re being honest, Santa Monica Studio should just get on with it with the release date reveal, regardless if it has a trailer ready or not. These showcases might help drum up hype for a game, but they are extra work for the studio. Besides, if there’s a game that does not need an introduction, it’s Ragnarok. All PlayStation owners have their eyes on Kratos’ latest outing. We don’t think anyone will mind if Santa Monica Studio skips the trailer to spend more time polishing the game ahead of its launch. If anything, we’re expecting Santa Monica Studio to block out all distractions at this point. After setting the bar high with the 2018 reboot, the first-party Sony studio has to focus on making sure that the sequel is just as good as the original if not better even if it means that the next look we’ll get of God of War: Ragnarok is when it comes out.
