Previously, we reported that Lucasfilm and Sony expressed their displeasure after seeing the demo of Aspyr Media’s progress on the highly anticipated remake. As a result, Embracer Group put the game on ice until it could find a new studio. Over the weekend, we found out that Embracer was actively looking for a new studio for a mystery AAA project. Now, it’s starting to look like this is for the KOTOR remake. According to Bloomberg, Saber, which had provided Aspyr support throughout the game’s development, has taken over. The KOTOR remake is a big deal and it’s interesting that Aspyr’s work couldn’t pass Sony as well as Lucasfilm Games’ standards. It’s worth noting that Aspyr is best known for porting over the pair of KOTOR games to other platforms. On the other hand, Saber Interactive is a support studio that specializes in ports and remasters. But, for what it’s worth, Saber has made acquisitions in recent years that put it in a good position to do the KOTOR remake justice. In other news, Embracer Group continues to expand its hold over other IPs. After acquiring the western subsidiaries of Square Enix, Embracer paid a hefty sum to secure the rights to use parts of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
