Fast forward to a couple of decades later since these fan-favorite movies were released and it appears that Ridley Scott is working on live-action TV shows for both.
What else do we know about the Blade Runner and Alien TV shows?
In a Today interview on BBC Radio 4, the award-winning director confirmed that the Blade Runner TV series already has a pilot written. He added that they are “already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours.” This confirms the rumors that started spreading around in February. Unfortunately, outside of the confirmation that it is in development, Scott didn’t reveal more details about the Blade Runner TV series. It’ll be interesting to see if and on which streaming service the show will make its debut and if it will affect Denis Villeneuve’s plans to make a follow-up to 2017’s Blade Runner 2049. If it’s any consolation, Scott also confirmed in the same interview that the Alien TV show is “now being written for pilot.” He adds that his team is already working on putting together an 8-10 hour bible for Alien’s trip to the small screen. However, unlike the Blade Runner TV show, we do know that Alien will stream on FX first, with earlier descriptions stating that it’s going to blend the horror of the first Alien film with the action of the second. Ultimately, this all sounds promising and fans should expect nothing short of excellent from Scott. Unfortunately, these TV shows probably won’t release anytime soon. Scott himself has his hands full working on Kitbag with Gladiator 2 set to follow. Then again, who knows? If the 83-year-old director has the time to criticize superhero movies, he can probably make room to work on two more TV shows.
