True, games do load faster on the PlayStation 5 than they do on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. However, that’s to be expected. After all, files usually do load faster on an SSD compared to an HDD. Not to mention, there hasn’t been any noticeable difference in performance in terms of loading times between the PlayStation 5 and its main competition, Xbox Series S/X. With that said, Resident Evil Village might just be the first game to show the difference that the SSD of the PlayStation 5 makes.

Resident Evil Village on PS5 Pre-Load Times and Size

A reputable source of PlayStation news has leaked the file size and pre-load times for Resident Evil Village on the PlayStation 5.

▶️ Download Size : 27.325 GB (Without Day One Patch) ? Pre-Load : May 5? Launch : May 7 ? #PS5 #ResidentEvil8 #ResidentEvilVillage⬜ @RE_Games pic.twitter.com/7h3jNt8Bp5 — PlayStation Game Size (@PlaystationSize) March 8, 2021 According to the leak, the PS5 version of Resident Evil Village will clock in at just around 27.325 GB, which is reportedly nearly half of that of the reported file size of the game (50.02GB) as revealed on the listing on the Microsoft Store. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the leaked size probably doesn’t include the RE: Verse multiplayer mode just yet. Its also expected to increase in size even further with a day-one patch following the May 5 pre-load time. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see just how much higher the space Resident Evil Village takes on the PlayStation 5 at launch. Even if we take into account the multiplayer add-on, it’ll add only just about 15GB. This means that it’ll still be around just 43GB. This is still lower than the estimated file size of the game on Xbox systems. Either way, whether it’s 43GB or 50GB at launch, Resident Evil Village is still fairly huge. In comparison, its predecessor, Resident Evil 7, only took up around 24GB of disk space. Meanwhile, the Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake required just 21.07GB and 21.9GB of disk space, respectively. Still, it is understandable that Resident Evil Village will take up more space. After all, Capcom has since revealed that the scope of the latest mainline title in the Resident Evil franchise will be much larger than previous installments.

What’s Next for Resident Evil Village?

Resident Evil Village is set to launch on May 7, 2021. This leaves gamers just less than 2 months to prepare for the upcoming survival horror title. However, perhaps more importantly, Capcom will only have so much time left to release the second demo for Resident Evil Village, which they promised would release sometime this Spring 2021 on all consoles. Earlier this year, Capcom released the Maiden demo on the PlayStation 5. It gave players a closer look at one of the locales in Resident Evil Village, the mansion. It also showcased the enigmatic daughters living inside the confines of the said mansion, as well as their gargantuan mother, Lady Dimitrescu.
