Case in point, Portal and Portal 2 co-writer, Erik Wolpaw, just called out Valve to let him do Portal 3. In a recent Kiki Talkz podcast, VGC reports that Wolpaw’s message to Valve, or specifically, Gabe Newell, is that “We’ve gotta start Portal 3.” Wolpaw added that he isn’t “getting any younger” and he doesn’t want to wait before he’s “too old to work on Portal 3.” Wolpaw went as far as to encourage fans to “send mail to Gabe” if they want Valve to make Portal 3. Finally, Wolpaw mentioned that Valve stands to make a lot of money from Portal 3, even if it’s not gonna make them “Counter-Strike: GO Money.” Unfortunately, the threequel-averse studio hasn’t announced any plans to revisit the Portal games anytime soon. The closest thing that Portal fans have to a new installment that they can look forward to is a port for the Nintendo Switch. It also appears that Wolpaw is well aware that Valve doesn’t want to do a third Portal game. He compared the monumental undertaking to a “revolution” to highlight how difficult it would be to make Valve consider Portal 3. The good news is that Valve is back to making video games again. Steam, Dota 2, and CS: GO, as well as the Steam Deck, remain priorities for the privately-owned tech company, but Valve hasn’t completely given up on setting new gaming standards. Case in point, a Valve designer recently confirmed that the studio is working on multiple games. This was corroborated later by a datamine that revealed four unannounced Valve projects, which includes a follow-up to Half-Life: Alyx. Wolpaw’s interest isn’t likely to make Newell change his mind, but who knows? Wolpaw’s words might light a fire under Valve. Speaking of Wolpaw, the video game writer is currently a freelance contractor that most recently worked on Half-Life: Alyx and Aperture Desk Job. Wolpaw was also a writer on 2005’s Psychonauts and the now-defunct Artifact.
