The 15-year-old franchise has taken audiences on magical trips all around the globe. Case in point, the most recent open-world RPG trilogy took gamers on a romp through Ancient Egypt, Greece, and England. Now, the next game could feature the ancient civilization that settled and prospered in central Mexico in the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries.

— ACG (@JeremyPenter) July 13, 2022 Historically, the Aztecs are credited for a lot of medical and scientific advancements. The Aztecs are also believed to be the first to require education for their people. With several pyramid-like structures scattered all over South America to this day, we’ve no doubt that the next Assassin’s Creed game will do a game based on this setting much justice - if the rumors are true. On top of the “perfect” setting, an Assassin’s Creed game featuring the Aztecs will fit well with the series’ recurring theme. Say what you will about how much the story has gotten out of hand, but you’d have to give Ubisoft credit for sticking to it. It takes a lot of creative effort to come up with a story that claims that ancient deities are advanced lifeforms from out of this world known as the Isu. Unfortunately, this most recent leak contrasts what we heard in February.

Earlier reports all claim that Ubisoft is working on an Assassin’s Creed game starring Basim. In addition to the protagonist, what we’ve heard suggests that Ubisoft will bring the series back to its stealth-action roots. If nothing else, this is more in line with the launch of Skull and Bones later on November 8. The upcoming pirate sim should tide (get it?) gamers over who want the series’ naval combat as Ubisoft goes for a more stealthy Assassin’s Creed game. Of course, this isn’t to say whether one of the reports is true or not. For all we know, all the info that has leaked so far is legitimate. After all, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be a live-service hub for multiple Assassin’s Creed games that will evolve over time. If this is true, we could be getting two Assassin’s Creed games soon. The good news is that Ubisoft confirmed during the series’ anniversary that it will “unveil the future of Assassin’s Creed” in a special livestream in September.
