With that said, it appears that Nintendo can’t keep details about the highly anticipated Breath of the Wild sequel a secret for too long, after hawk-eyed observers found evidence of potential gameplay mechanics that are coming to the game.

When are we going to hear more about Breath of the Wild 2 next?

Not too long ago, Nintendo filed patents that many Zelda fans believe are related to Breath of the Wild 2. The said patents, which Nintendo registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization, come with illustrations that detail several gaming mechanics and describe features that are similar to the gameplay footage we saw at E3 2021. Case in point, US20210370179 talks about a specific move that a character can perform while shooting an arrow and free falling. Meanwhile, US20210370175 is talking about the ability to pass through solid surfaces, which was also shown in the game’s initial trailer. Finally, US20210370178 describes an ability that lets players remind objects back in time.

— Samus Hunter | Nintendo Leak and News Inside (@SamusHunter2) December 15, 2021 Of course, Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any of the information revealed in the said patents. For all we know, they could be for a different game. After all, the Breath of the Wild sequel isn’t the only one that these mechanics could fit well. But, if these are for Breath of the Wild 2, then fans have a reason to get excited. The first Breath of the Wild game was quite divisive and we ranked it rather low in our rankings of the best Legend of Zelda games. Even so, as we’ve mentioned earlier, it introduced many gameplay mechanics that succeeding games have tried to copy. If Nintendo is going as far as to patent certain mechanics, then this suggests that it values everything new that it’s going to add to Breath of the Wild 2, which could also pop up in future Nintendo titles.
