For the second straight year, a live-action adaptation of Capcom’s best-selling franchise is hitting the can. Deadline broke the news wherein it described the cancelation as “not entirely surprising”, adding that the eight-episode action-horror TV series “did not have a particularly strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10.” The same report points to the latest Resident Evil adaptation’s failure to make an impression following an “underwhelming 55% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 27% audience score.” Technically, last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is still not canceled. But, with little to zero news about a sequel a year later following a decent outing, we’re not betting on a follow-up coming out anytime soon, if at all. The movie industry continues to miss the mark on one of gaming’s hallmark franchises. On the other hand, Capcom’s Resident Evil series continues to enjoy strong sales and support from audiences. 2017’s Resident Evil Biohazard helped breathe new life into the front runner of the survival horror genre. At the moment, Capcom is sitting on a significant piece of story DLC for last year’s Resident Evil Village due in October, and the highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 Remake that’s coming out on March 24. As for Netflix, the streamer has several other video game adaptations on the wings such as ones based on Horizon, BioShock, and Castlevania, among several others.
