PUBG was initially released back in March 2017. It has since become one of the most popular battle royale shooters available. Now, it looks like the developer and publisher of the title, Krafton, wants to expand it further. No, we’re not just talking about jumping to another platform or anything like that. Rather, we’re talking about an animated series (or something along the lines).
What is the PUBG animated series going to look like?
At this point, we know very little about the PUBG animated series, or if it will even be about PUBG at all. The only thing Krafton Inc. announced was that an animated film is in development with Adi Shankar at its helm. For those that don’t know, Adi Shanker is the producer of Netflix’s highly successful Castlevania animated series. After the show’s four-season run, which led to a spin-off series, Shankar has moved on to work on other projects. In addition to the PUBG Animated Series, Shankar is also the creator and executive producer of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Having said that, we can assume that the project is in safe hands. Unfortunately, Krafton declined to reveal more information about the animated series. Overall, this appears to be a part of Krafton’s increased effort to expand on PUBG’s in-game lore. In recent years, the studio has tried to build up the lore behind the game, adding small tidbits of information. This is likely in response to the more lore-heavy approach of its competition like Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, and Apex Legends. Of course, just exactly what the PUBG animated series will be about is in the hands of Shankar. The massive PUBG universe is literally at his disposal. If it’s any consolation, Krafton did state that Shankar is looking forward to “revealing to everybody what winning a chicken dinner looks like.” This suggests that the project won’t deviate too much from the battle royale theme of its source material. For now, all we can do is wait for more announcements from Krafton.
