Is Jake Paul going to fight Conor McGregor?

Internet celebrity-turned-boxer Jake Paul has spent the last year or two trying to get the former UFC champion, Conor McGregor, to fight him. He first called out the Irish superstar back on December 20 after knocking out Nate Robinson. McGregor declined the offer back then, but Paul did not stop. If anything, his goading got worse after beating former UFC champions, Ben Askren and Tyrone Woodley. Paul even went as far as to offer McGregor a $50 million contract, which McGregor still declined. With that said, McGregor’s refusal to square up against Paul hasn’t stopped people from chiming in to see who would win in a fight. The latest to do so is someone who just happens to know how to beat McGregor and he isn’t exactly on the Irishman’s side. Javier Mendez, who trained Khabib Nurmagomedov, recently gave his two cents about why Paul shouldn’t fear McGregor. According to a Betway Insider, Mendez claims that Jake has “so many advantages on Conor.” He added that Jake is larger and longer than McGregor. He also explained that Paul has been training in boxing for more than three years with people who “know what they’re doing.” On the other hand, McGregor has only fought inside the boxing ring once, losing to Floyd Mayweather back in 2017. After enumerating Paul’s advantages over McGregor, Mendez added that Paul “shouldn’t have to fear Conor whatsoever”. However, he did warn Paul to “fear people like Canelo”. Paul recently added Canelo Alvarez to his wishlist of opponents, which probably will never happen anytime soon; Canelo is currently ranked as the No. 1 active pound-for-pound boxer right now. Hopefully, all of these talks start yielding something concrete. The 24-year-old’s last fight was up against Tyron Woodley last August 29, 2021. Meanwhile, McGregor is still trying to find his footing once again, quite literally, after suffering a broken tibia during his second straight loss to Dustin Poirier last July 10, 2021, following their second fight earlier in January against Poirier where he suffered the first knockout loss of his career.
