What’s included in the July 2021 State of Play showcase?
Whereas the previous State of Play showcases often included multiple big AAA titles, the more recent ones have shone the spotlight on one big upcoming game with a couple of undercards, so to speak. So far, we’ve had the likes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West star in their own State of Play showcases. Now, it’s Deathloop’s turn. On Thursday, July 8, Sony just announced that audiences can look forward to a more detailed look at Arkane Studio’s newest title, Deathloop. The upcoming first-person shooter title from the developers of the Dishonored games is set to hit store shelves later this year, after it was delayed from its initial May 2021 release date. According to Sony, the upcoming showcase will have a 30-minute runtime. Nine minutes will be dedicated exclusively to never-before-seen Deathloop gameplay footage. The 2021 State of Play showcase will also introduce a new lineup of unnamed third-party games and indie titles as well. During the last few State of Play showcases, Sony announced some interesting games. One of these is the PS5 version of Among Us, which recently had its release date leak. Unfortunately, Sony knew all too well what fans were expecting from the next State of Play and the studio made sure to temper fan expectations. It let everyone know in advance to not expect any information about the next God of War game nor Horizon Forbidden West. Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War are two of Sony’s biggest upcoming AAA exclusive games. It’s understandable why audiences would want to know more about these two. In particular, God of War doesn’t even have an official name yet, nor a more narrow release window after it was announced to have been delayed to 2022. If it’s any consolation, Sony did tease that it will provide “more updates soon” throughout the next couple of weeks. It would be interesting to see if Sony will include Death Stranding: Director’s Cut at the July 2021 State of Play showcase. If we were to hazard a guess, we might get a brief look at the PS5 update for Hideo Kojima’s latest game on July 8. Either way, we could get a more extensive look at the game very soon, as teased during its initial announcement.
