The former paramours have lived rent-free in the minds of the casual observer for the past quarter as fans made their voices heard. In particular, many have signed the petition asking Depp to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Meanwhile, many more are for the notion that Warner Bros. should replace Heard as Queen Mera in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom. Although the results of the lawsuit have not necessarily had an immediate impact on each star’s respective careers, we can expect some announcements to come out in the next few months. Depp’s lawsuit against Heard started when the Never Back Down star wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post. Depp’s ex-wife described herself in the written piece as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Even though Heard did not explicitly name the Pirates of the Caribbean star in the op-ed, it still implied him as the suspect. Depp later filed the $50 million lawsuit, which Heard countersued with a $100 million lawsuit of her own with claims that Depp was defaming her. At the very least, things between the two parties are now settled in a court of law. The jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages suffered related to the 2018 op-ed while Heard will receive $2 million for punitive damages. Now that it’s all done and over with, fans can look back at the facts behind what happened between Heard and Depp to come to their own conclusions.
