Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, gave a much-needed update. In a recent interview, Bruckheimer confirmed that Ted Elliot is returning to the franchise as its screenwriter. The news of having Elliot on board is very much welcome for fans of the franchise who are still hoping for a new Pirates movie. Having one of the original writers bodes well for the sequel to 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Who is Ted Elliot?

Ted Elliot is one of two credited screenwriters for the first four movies in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. With the help of fellow screenwriter Terry Rossio, Elliot turned the pirate movie into a billion-dollar franchise and Captain Jack Sparrow as a household name. Unfortunately, Elliot did not take part in writing the screenplay for the fifth installment Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is arguably when things went from and to worse for the swash-buckling series. His return to the franchise will ensure that the next movie will retain the feel of the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy despite Johnny Depp’s absence. The screenplay is still in the works and Bruckheimer, for his part, is excited that Ted Elliot is working on the script. He shares his excitement about working once more with Elliot during an interview: Ted Elliot brings experience and pedigree to the sixth film. Elliot is a celebrated screenwriter who has worked on several other blockbuster films such as Alladin, Shrek, the National Treasures series, and the Zorro movies. Elliot has also been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay for his work in the animated film Shrek.

No Captain Jack

It has been reported that Johnny Depp, who plays the wildly popular Captain Jack Sparrow, will not reprise his role in the sixth film. Depp has been adamant that he’ll never work with Disney again. He is famously known for agreeing that not even “$300 million and a million alpacas” would be enough for him to go back as Captain Jack Sparrow. But, while Depp is firm in his decision, this hasn’t stopped fans from filing separate petitions to bring him back.; For what it’s worth, Depp has won a lot of support during the much-publicized trial against his ex-wife. Fans are now hoping for justice will be served and that the star can once portray the beloved Captain Jack. As for Pirates of the Caribbean, the sixth mainline installment isn’t the only film in the franchise in development. Bruckheimer confirmed earlier this year that the Margot Robbie-led spin-off isn’t off the table yet.
