No, seriously, we’re not joking. It’s in the name itself, as Jason Statham has reportedly joined Miramax’s The Bee Keeper.
What is The Bee Keeper all about?
According to Deadline, Statham is joining a movie, The Bee Keeper, that Miramax has already invested seven figures in. However, we know very little about Statham’s role - we don’t even know if he was cast in a lead role or not. What we do know is that Kurt Wimmer penned the movie as a spec script and he’ll sign on in a producing role along with Statham and Bill Block, who is Miramax’s CEO. The film will reportedly start filming in 2022, with London and Atlanta named as potential locations. At the moment, the project has no director. If nothing else, we’re interested to learn more about what The Bee Keeper is all about. Is it just a throwaway name for an action movie that barely features any bees in it? That is possible. It’s also possible that the movie intends to take advantage of the recent surge in the growing popularity of bees. In particular, there is a growing global movement to save endangered honeybees from extinction. Not to mention, beekeeping has also become a popular hobby among younger audiences in recent years. Regardless of what the movie is all about, one thing that we’re sure of is that it’s going to pull in some serious box office numbers. Jason Statham is as close to a sure thing as a box office hit can get. His latest movie, 2021’s Wrath of Man, made $104 million at the box office despite the ongoing pandemic. In fact, the last film that Statham made that bombed commercially was 2015’s Wild Card, which made just $6.7 million against a $30 million budget. For now, excited fans can look forward to watching Statham in Five Eyes. The Guy Ritchie film is set to premiere on January 21, 2022.
