Following the recent events, there have been rumors that DC Studios’ co-CEOs plan to recast the entire cast of the DC Universe. Fans have termed it “Flashpoint” in reference to The Flash story arc where Barry Allen travels back in time and spawns an alternate timeline including new heroes. Gunn once again took to Twitter to address fans and shut down the rumors regarding the recasting of the entire DC lineup. The director said that the rumors were “untrue.” “I keep seeing posts with this untrue theory,” Gunn tweeted. “We’re not recasting everyone except The Suicide Squad.”

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 19, 2022 Throughout his stint as co-CEO of DC Studios, Gunn has been honest about what the future holds for the DC Universe. However, his newest statement left things a bit vague. Gunn’s statement has plenty of possible interpretations. The first is he will recast everyone in the DCU, including The Suicide Squad. Gunn directed the critically-acclaimed soft reboot last year and the HBO Max spin-off series starring John Cena. The second interpretation is only some members of the DC Universe would have to be recast. We know that Henry Cavill is out and there are talks that Jason Momoa will have a different role. Ben Affleck may be directing and not return as Batman. The fate of Gal Gadot after the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3 is still up in the air. Ezra Miller could also be heading out the door after his recent legal troubles. And then there’s Dwayne Johnson, who, according to reports has had a toxic relationship with the previous DC executives during the production of Black Adam. Johnson quickly denied those rumors. His movie, however, was not very profitable for Warner Bros. and DC Studios. Whatever Gunn and Safran decide on, not every DC fan will be happy with it. The director had this in mind when he took the job. His decision will be based on what he and Safran think is best for the studio moving forward. “Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story & best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Perhaps these choices are great, perhaps not, but they are made with sincere hearts & integrity & always with the story in mind,” Gunn tweets. Perhaps we will get to know more about the future plans for the DC Universe once Gunn and Safran have finalized it. Gunn said that they will be ready to reveal more details regarding the DCU after the New Year.
