However, while there has been news of positive developments regarding the fourth xXx film, it appears that we shouldn’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Who is going to be in the fourth xXx film?

Despite voicing out his desire to return to direct the fourth film, D.J. Caruso’s return isn’t guaranteed. However, it hasn’t stopped the studio from approaching several artists. For example, Jay Chou and Zoe Chang both reportedly signed on to join the fourth xXx film back in 2018. The former is best remembered for starring alongside Seth Rogen in 2011’s The Green Hornet. Of course, Diesel will also be returning to star in the fourth xXx film as its titular protagonist while also producing it. Reports also claim that Deepika Padukone will reprise her role as Serena Hunger, the former xXx agent who also plays the love interest to Diesel’s Xander Cage. It should already go without saying but much can still change between now and when the fourth xXx film starts development.

What’s taking the fourth xXx film so long?

Not too long after the third xXx film premiered, Vin Diesel’s production company, One Race Films, announced that it had partnered with The H Collective to buy out the franchise from Revolution Studios. This effectively gave the Hollywood superstar full control over any succeeding films. Because of this, many expected filming and production to begin as soon as possible, but it appears that things aren’t as straightforward. In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, the future of the xXx series is in limbo after Weying Galaxy sued The H Collective in 2020 for failing to live up to a previous agreement that would have given them the rights to future installments in the franchise. Given that Vin Diesel has a busy schedule ahead of him, fans shouldn’t expect the fourth xXx film to premiere anytime soon. Production on Fast and Furious 10 (and 11) will begin on January 2022 with the film scheduled to premiere in April 2023. Meanwhile, Diesel also talked about the possibility of a new Riddick game and film earlier this year. This effectively means that he has put the xXx franchise in the backburner. At least, for now. If it’s any consolation, the Fast and Furious franchise is set to end after the next two films. So, who knows? Once Diesel is done playing Dom Torreto, maybe he can go back to playing as Xander Cage?
