After being leaked and teased last year, Warner Bros. eventually confirmed that it is working on a platform brawler. However, unlike the genre’s standard-bearer, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros., MultiVersus will focus on teamwork, although other modes will be available in-game as well. MultiVersus doesn’t have a release date at the moment, but Warner Bros. will hold open and closed betas in the meantime. Here’s how you can sign up for the MultiVersus alpha and beta:

When will the MultiVersus alpha and beta start?

According to the official Multiversus website, the open beta isn’t happening until sometime in July. Before then, the studio is holding an invite-only closed alpha test starting on May 19 at 9:00 AM PDT until May 27 at 5:00 PM PDT. If you’re interested, you can sign up and create a free WB Games account and follow the instructions. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you’ll receive an invitation to the early testing. But, if you do get invited, you’ll get three additional invites so you can bring others along as well.

Is MultiVersus going to be on all platforms?

Yes. It is. Warner Bros. wants Multiversus to come out on every modern platform outside of the Nintendo Switch. If it’s successful, we wouldn’t be surprised if it comes to Nintendo’s hybrid console as well.

Will MultiVersus be free-to-play?

Unlike other platform brawlers, MultiVersus will be free-to-play with cross-progression and cross-play.

Which fighters are available in MultiVersus?

So far, here are the characters confirmed for the MultiVersus alpha test:

Shaggy (Scooby-Doo) - Bruiser Batman (DC) - Bruiser Garnet (Steven Universe) - Bruiser Jake the Dog (Adventure Time) - Bruiser Taz (Looney Tunes) - Bruiser Superman (DC) - Tank Wonder Woman (DC) - Tank The Iron Giant (The Iron Giant) - Tank Harley Quinn (DC) - Assassin Arya Stark (Game of Thrones) - Assassin Finn (Adventure Time) Assassin Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes) - Mage Steven Universe (Steven Universe) - Support Reindog (Original Character) - Support

MultiVersus will feature two different modes during the closed alpha test: a co-op-focused 2v2 mode and a four-player free-for-all. Aside from unique movesets, each character in MultiVersus will fall into a different character class. For example, Superman, a tank, will focus on heavy attacks and soaking up damage. On the other hand, Steven Universe, a support, can be seen shielding allies and providing cover. Because of the huge disparity between characters and their classes, we can expect more characters to arrive by July and after MultiVersus comes out.

Is MultiVersus coming out this year?

According to listings, MultiVersus is still on track for a 2022 release. Most likely, we’ll get a more specific release date for MultiVersus once the closed beta ends in July.
