Even before House of the Dragon premiered on HBO in August, we’d already heard rumors claiming that the studio had already renewed the show for a second season. It did not take long for this to become official. However, it appears that House of the Dragon Season 2 won’t start production until next year. According to sources, pre-production on House of the Dragon Season 2 is going to start in October but the actual filming won’t be until March through June in Càceres, Spain. When you consider that the debut season of House of the Dragon didn’t begin production until April of last year and premiered only in August a year later, it’s highly likely that the follow-up season will follow the same time frame. As such, fans shouldn’t expect House of the Dragon Season 2 until mid-2024. But, of course, we could be wrong, and HBO could still speed up the timeline. Since the foundation is already there, all the CGI and post-production work for House of the Dragon Season 2 might no longer take as long.

Thankfully, another blockbuster show will try and keep fans occupied in the interim. Just months after House of the Dragon is done with its initial 10-episode run, HBO will launch The Last of Us sometime in early 2023. If we’re lucky, we might even get more news about the Jon Snow spin-off by then.
