If quality is good gargantuan launch incoming, easily one of the biggest of 2023 pic.twitter.com/TNM93kPT3Z — Benji-Sales (@BenjiSales) January 8, 2023 According to numbers sleuth, BenjiSales, Hogwarts Legacy is currently atop Steam’s best-seller list. Technically, it’s in fourth place, but the other three games ahead of it are all free-to-play, namely: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and Apex Legends. What’s a lot more interesting is that Hogwarts Legacy is the only game that’s still not out that’s found on the list. When you consider that Hogwarts Legacy beat out the likes of Elden Ring and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it’s not easy not to be impressed. The former recently out-GOTY’ed The Last of Us Part 2 to be the GOAT of gaming while the latter recently posted the biggest weekend launch haul for any entertainment product last year.
As of the time of the writing, Hogwarts Legacy is both the best-selling non-free-to-play title on Steam and the platform’s most-wish-listed title, surpassing The Day Before, which recently got a new RTX trailer ahead of its launch. Hogwarts Legacy is easily the most ambitious Harry Potter game ever made. It comes at a great time for a fanbase starved for Wizarding World-related content. Furthermore, despite the controversies surrounding Harry Potter’s author, J.K. Rowling, an on-going boycott, and its “unfair” PlayStation-exclusive content, fans are still flocking to pre-order Hogwarts Legacy. If Hogwarts Legacy can keep on selling very well after launching on February 10, it wouldn’t be surprising if this encourages Warner Bros. Discovery to invest heavily into the Wizarding World franchise once again.
