After releasing stills of Forbidden West on the PS4 a few months back, Guerilla has eased concerns by dropping even more footage of the Forbidden West running on the PS4 Pro. Guerilla released several 30-second gameplay GIFs via an official blog post on PlayStation’s website. The GIFs do an excellent job showcasing the PS4 Pro’s still-capable hardware. The first GIF takes place mostly in a city setting amidst vividly colorful scenery. Meanwhile, the second and third clip sees Aloy fighting against Clamberjaw machines and a herd of Bristlebacks, respectively. It’s difficult to tell if the minor slowdowns are just because of the GIF format or if it’s just how Forbidden West plays on the PS4 Pro. Naturally, players can expect a noticeable difference between how the game performs on the PS5 and the PS4 Pro. But, even in these GIFs, the game looks great, slight hiccups aside. However, we are curious as to why Guerilla used GIFs and didn’t just release a trailer. Also, we’re still waiting on the studio to show audiences how Forbidden West will run on the base version of the PlayStation 4. If it’s any consolation, the latest blog post from Guerilla also confirms that Forbidden West has gone gold. This means that the game is complete and ready to launch on February 18. It’s no secret that the PS5 remains difficult to find. After being released in 2020, Sony has had difficulty keeping up with the demand for their latest console. Even though the PS5 is still the fastest-selling PlayStation console of all time, Sony is still suffering from the microchip shortage, as is the rest of the world. But, it is interesting that Sony confirmed that it will continue manufacturing PS4s in 2022. It’s hard not to wonder if stopping the production of the PS4 completely, as Microsoft has done with the Xbox One, would allow Sony to focus on making more PS5s. Ultimately, PS4 owners can rest easy knowing that Forbidden West looks and plays well based on the early looks released by Sony. In other news, Sony is expected to hold a February 2022 State of Play event before the release of Sifu and Horizon Forbidden West. Also, a few days ago, Sony released its February 2022 lineup for PS Plus, much to the disappointment of subscribers.
