Three years after Disney confirmed in 2019 that Diego Luna was reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel, Lucasfilm announced when the Cassian Andor-led spin-off will hit Disney+ and it’s pretty soon. A trailer at this year’s Star Wars Celebration announced that Andor will drop on August 31, which makes it the next Star Wars show that fans can look forward to after Obi-Wan Kenobi ends on June 22. Cassian Andor was immediately a fan favorite after appearing in Rogue One. A Rebel Alliance spy, Cassian was instrumental in stealing the Death Star plans. Although Andor and his group of unlikely heroes ultimately met their demise at the Battle of Scarif, their efforts were key to the destruction of the Death Star in 1977’s original Star Wars film. Canonically, Rogue One is the first live-action prequel to the entire Star Wars franchise, and the show is going to be set even further back. According to the latest info available about Andor, the series will be set five years before Luna and Felicity Jones’s Jyn Erso teams up for their legendary heist. To help separate the show from its more Jedi-centric contemporaries, Andor will use real-life locations and not StageCraft. Similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor will receive a two-episode premiere on August 31 with the remaining 10 episodes coming out individually for the next ten weeks. Oh, just in case you didn’t know, Lucasfilm and Disney have already greenlit Andor for a second season. Speaking of Star Wars, the recent celebration was a lot to take in. In addition to Andor’s release date and second season, Lucasfilm also revealed when The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka are coming out as well as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
