Unfortunately, because it was confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 was delayed to 2022, fans will have to wait a while to get their hands on the next-gen racing sim title. But while the full release won’t be at least until the calendar year turns, it seems that a beta test is imminent.
When is the Gran Turismo 7 beta test going to start?
It was recently confirmed, via the official PlayStation website, that a Gran Turismo 7 beta test is going to start soon. Observant users across social media spotted the beta test page that seems to be a part of the larger Experience PlayStation promotion. For those that don’t know, Experience PlayStation is an app that’s rarely used by Sony. It is often a sign of bigger things to come though - Sony tends to use it to promote live experiences. Getting access to the Gran Turismo 7 beta test isn’t easy though. Players need to head to the official PlayStation website and navigate to the Experience PlayStation portion. Then, they need to go through a series of proverbial hoops involving multiple “quests” that relate to the beta test for Gran Turismo 7. Although it initially looked like that the beta test and larger promotion were going to be exclusive to Italian gamers, it is open to worldwide audiences. Unfortunately, the beta test is still closed for now. After receiving the code for the beta test, players found out that all that they were given was a mere placeholder. You can’t redeem it. This suggests that the promotion wasn’t meant for the public just yet. On that note, neither PlayStation, Sony, or Polyphony Digital haven’t announced the date that the Gran Turismo 7 beta test will start.
What’s next for Gran Turismo 7?
The Gran Turismo series is no longer widely considered the king of racing sims. In fact, we recently named Forza Horizon 4 the best racing sim today. Even so, all the Gran Turismo games are still considered elite. But, because the release date of GT7 was pushed back to 2022, you can’t exactly blame fans for feeling disappointed. Speaking of feelings, players are divided about Sony’s decision to make Gran Turismo 7 available on the PS4. In its original announcement, Sony confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 will be a PS5 title. Now that it isn’t exclusive to the PS5, fans are worried that it won’t be able to take full advantage of the newer console’s added power. Making cross-generation games, as we’ve mentioned before, takes a toll on developers and can adversely impact a game. Whether Gran Turismo 7 will be better off based on Sony’s decision remains to be seen. One thing that we can be sure of is that if the Gran Turismo 7 beta test starts soon, then it’s only a matter of time before the game releases. 2017’s Gran Turismo Sport had a beta test seven months before its launch date. We can expect Polyphony Digital to follow a similar timeline. This would put the release date a couple of months away from the release of Forza Horizon 5 in November 2021.
