Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims that Deus Ex’s lead development studio, Eidos Montreal, is also working on a new Deus Ex game.
— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) November 1, 2022 It’s worth noting that Schreir previously denied that Eidos Montreal had a Deus Ex game in the works. But, it’s possible that Embracer Group noticed the fan interest in the sci-fi RPG series and gave Embracer Group the green light to work on a new installment. The Studio Onoma employees could then come aboard Square Enix Montreal to start development on this game as the “core” team worked on the new IP. At the time of the purchase, Embracer Group confirmed it saw the possibility of it revisiting the IPs it was acquiring. So far, the only game in development is a new Tomb Raider entry, which will use Unreal Engine 5. It’s been six years since Eidos Montreal’s last Deus Ex game, so it feels like the perfect time to revisit the series. If nothing else, Eidos could dip its toes in Deus Ex by doing a remake of some of the older Deus Ex titles. Coincidentally, Eidos Montreal’s former parent company, Square Enix, recently revealed that it’s shifting its focus towards more globally appealing games. Deus Ex was easily one of its most popular IPs. We can’t help but feel like someone over at Square Enix is now regretting letting Eidos Montreal go.
