In a recent guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Black Adam star shares that he had his first superhero costume altered. “With the superhero costumes… like Marvel and DC, they all have these muscle paddings in them, which is just what you do. So, you can imagine that muscle suit, Black Adam muscle suit, with muscle padding on top of my body,” the actor explains. Johnson adds “it looked like you and I were going back to SNL to do a sketch. It was, like, ridiculous. So I asked them to remove the muscle padding.” The actor explains that he “wanted to work hard. I wanted to be in the best shape of my life because I feel like Black Adam just commanded that kind of performance.” Johnson, when compared to the average person, does already have a superhuman-level body. Johnson shared that he had to maintain a certain level of fitness for the role. He had to be very disciplined in his diet and training. He mentions that the real challenge was to maintain the peak level physique for four months while shooting the film. The Rock explains that he had one shot with Black Adam so he had to put all the work into making it successful. The actor shared with Fallon that Black Adam is the most important movie of his career. After having the muscle padding removed from his costume, Johnson was left with a very thin outfit that showed off much of his chiseled body. Fallon remarked that the suit was the greatest and a game changer.
Hinting at the return of Superman
Johnson and Fallon then went on to discuss the movie and how it was filled with easter eggs. The Black Adam actor shared that they “wanted to build out the DC Universe.” The film will be introducing five new superheroes which include the Justice Society of America and Black Adam. Fallon, who has seen the film, hints that something happens during the post-credits scene and mentions that “people are going to freak out.” Johnson explains that the movie will be a new era in the DC universe. The mention of something happening in the post-credits scene may allude to Henry Cavill’s Superman making an appearance in Black Adam. There have been rumors that Warner Bros and Cavill have come to terms and the actor is returning to the DCEU as Superman. Johnson hints that the most powerful being in the universe has been “on the sidelines for too long.” He shares that he and the producers fought hard to give fans what they have been asking for. The actor ends by saying “welcome home.” Johnson caps off his appearance on the Tonight Show by giving the entire audience tickets to see the premiere of Black Adam in New York. Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022.
