While it’s no secret that Reynolds loves playing dress-up as Deadpool, one thing that stands out about the new advertisement is seeing the fourth-wall-breaking anti-hero appear alongside Korg from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Is Deadpool headed to the MCU?

Has an actor played a role more perfectly than Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? One could argue that even his portrayal of Wade Wilson in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine was spot-on. However, it wasn’t until Reynolds lobbied hard to revive the character for his own movie in 2016 as the merc with a mouth that his popularity as Deadpool took off. Both the 2016 film and its sequel, which was released in 2018, were hits, and fans soon turned their eyes to a third movie, as well as the possibility of Wade Wilson and Deadpool joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, until a trailer of Deadpool 3 is released, we won’t be able to know if Deadpool is going to be in the MCU, right? According to the latest TV spot for Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming film, Free Guy, Deadpool is already as good as confirmed to be in the MCU as he appears alongside Korg, who is a fan-favorite MCU character that has appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell that this is all just a joke. It’s just Reynolds being, well, himself. He’s even interviewed and argued against himself on TV before. Having said that, it seems like Reynolds intends on running the hype train for the much-delayed Free Guy to full speed. The film has been pushed back at least three times from its original July 2020 premiere date and is now expected to hit theaters starting on August 13, 2021. For those that don’t know, Free Guy is a film that stars Reynolds as an NPC, named simply as the Guy, in a video game. After spending so long as just a mere bystander, he is suddenly made aware that he is living inside a video game world. Now, he has to save the said world from complete and utter destruction with the help of Molotov Girl, who is being portrayed by Jodie Comer. Korg’s appearance in the new Free Guy TV spot is surprising, but not out of left field. The character is portrayed by Taika Waititi and the two have a history together. In addition to Waititi’s role in the Free Guy, Waititi was also a part of Reynold’s much-criticized Green Lantern superhero film. Naturally, the two couldn’t help but poke fun at the MCU. At one point, Deadpool goes as far as to ask Korg if he’s going to have a show on Disney Plus himself. Although the highlight has to be when Deadpool all but begged to join the MCU. With only a few weeks left until the premiere of Free Guy, we can only hope that the upcoming film is as entertaining as the latest TV spot. Speaking of video games, a Deadpool video game was released almost a decade ago. Unfortunately, the game is no longer available for sale. However, there are other games available that are based on Marvel properties. There’s Marvel’s Avengers, which is set to welcome its War for Wakanda expansion soon. There are also upcoming titles such as Square Enix’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as Netmarble’s Marvel Future Revolution mobile game.
