Shared first on Twitter by the miners themselves, GTA 5’s upcoming next-gen port, launching next March, will include new “chameleon” paint jobs. These pearlescent color schemes mix multiple different shades that sort of shift around on the car depending on what angle you look at it - not unlike those “oil effect” paint jobs, but with a broader selection of colors. The data miners didn’t stop at finding these new paint jobs and loading them up for themselves to share on screenshots - they went ahead and released mods that let you use these chameleon paint jobs in GTA 5 right now, provided you play on PC.

— NAstyWiNN3R (@NSTWNR) December 25, 2021 The recent major, story-driven DLC for GTA Online, The Contract - featuring returning protagonist Franklin Clinton and Dr. Dre as himself - brought a ton of content not only to the game, but also to the game files on your system right now that you can’t see unless you know what to look for. Data miners have found a wealth of information about the upcoming Expanded and Enhanced port, but are still mostly digging through the findings. A lot of this stuff appears in abstracted form, and files and code snippets need to be loaded up in various software to be interpreted. Luckily, the paint jobs were fairly easy to wrangle. We say “fairly easy” relatively speaking - modder WildBrick142 spent three days working on turning the datamined chameleon paint job files into an actually usable, playable mod for the current version of GTA 5, and succeeded.

Today, @_FiveM’s @Disquse has explained how it can be easily enabled. As we inch closer and close to the release of the next-gen port of GTA 5 in 2022, we expect more and more such features to be leaked by data miners. Rockstar has a way of pre-loading assets but hiding them in earlier updates, which of course routinely get dug up. GTA 5 Expanded & Enhanced launches in March 2022.
