According to the company’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two is thinking about working on more VR versions of its existing titles going forward.
What kind of Take-Two games would you like to see in VR?
Take-Two Interactive is the parent company and publisher of the GTA franchise. It is a massive entity in every sense of the word, owning two publishing labels in Rockstar Games and 2K. In addition to this, Take-Two owns several notable franchises outside of Grand Theft Auto, giving the company a treasure trove of IPs that it can remaster and remake for the VR platform. After the announcement that GTA: San Andreas was coming to the Oculus Quest 2 headset, Zelnick is teasing that more are coming in the future. The statement from the CEO is surprising, to say the least. Zelnick was noted to have been against VR for many years. He’s been quoted as saying that VR games were getting “too expensive” and that he is happy knowing that Take-Two isn’t investing money in VR anymore. Some of these comments were made as recently as last year. A change of heart since then suggests that Take-Two has seen just how lucrative porting over its games to the VR platform can be going forward. Unfortunately, Zelnick’s recent conference call did not go into too much detail about which Take-Two games are headed to VR platforms in the future. Then again, regardless of which one becomes available on a VR console, we bet that fans will be more than happy to buy it. As we’ve already mentioned, Take-Two owns several notable franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, NBA 2K, BioShock, Civilization, and more. Gamers will more than welcome any of these games on any given VR platform. Until then, fans can keep themselves busy with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. The VR version of the classic GTA title does not have a release date yet, but the project has reportedly been “years in the making.”
