First announced earlier this year, Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 got upgraded versions for next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series S/X and the PS5, today for zero added cost. The Resident Evil franchise is one of the best-selling video games of all time, but it had its fair share of turbulent times. Much of the 2010s was full of uncertainty for the survival-horror series as the switch for more action-oriented gameplay in later installments alienated its fans. Thankfully, the move to a first-person perspective and a return to a more contained experience with Resident Evil: Biohazard was more than enough to help reignite the creative spark over at the guys at Capcom. Since seeing success with the series’ seventh mainline installment in 2017, Capcom has released remakes of Resident Evil and 3 in 2019 and 2020, respectively. In addition, Capcom confirmed that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is coming in March. Having said that, the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades of the already-excellent Resident Evil games will bring 4K resolution and higher frame caps, among other benefits. PS5 owners, in particular, get the biggest slice of the upgrade pie as they’ll enjoy the games better thanks to the PS5’s audio prowess. Playing Resident Evil 7, 2, and 3, on the PS5 will make for quite the experience with the audio upgrades making encounters with each of the series’ villains all that much more terrifying. Unfortunately, the latest update to Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7, isn’t all good news. PC gamers, in particular, are experiencing issues with mod compatibility and performance. Since most of the complications are isolated to the PC platform, some gamers are hoping that Capcom will give them the option to revert to a previous update. Hopefully, Capcom comes up with a fix soon. The upgrades to Resident Evil, 2, 3, and 7, are not the only good things to come out of the Capcom Showcase. The Japanese video game publisher also revealed that Winters’ Expansion is coming to Resident Evil Village in October, bringing with it a slew of updates to the game like Shadows of Rose, a DLC campaign starring Rose Winters, a third-person mode for the main campaign, and new characters to the Mercenaries Mode.
