20th Century Fox had been developing a plot for Alien 5 to reintroduce Ellen Ripley to the franchise, while at the same time, Ridley Scott had begun making plans for a sequel to Alien: Covenant. Following Disney’s March 20, 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox, all of these plans were put on hold until earlier this year, when 20th Century Studios announced that Fede Alvarez would write and direct an Alien reboot film after pitching his own story. According to a report by Deadline, the studio has initiated talks with Cailee Spaeny to star in the film, which is set to begin production early next year. The reboot, which is set in its own universe, will be produced by Ridley Scott, who served as director of the original film and sequel series. No plot details have been disclosed, but we can expect to see the deadly Xenomorphs taking center stage once again. Cailee Spaeny, a rising talent in Hollywood, had her breakout role in 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising. Since then, she has starred in Bad Times at the El Royale, Vice, FX’s science fiction thriller Devs, and the acclaimed HBO crime series Mare of Easttown. In September of this year, she was cast in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biographical film Priscilla to play the titular role of Elvis Presley’s wife, Priscilla Presley. If chosen to play the lead role in the reboot, Cailee will serve as the fourth female lead in the franchise, taking on a role that has been played by Sigourney Weaver, Noomi Rapace, and Katherine Waterston.
