Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed in July that he’d finished filming his scenes for his DCEU debut as Black Adam. Nearly a year later, The Rock is back in costume after sharing a behind-the-scenes image from Black Adam. The most electrifying superstar in sports entertainment went on Instagram to confirm that he’s doing reshoots for Black Adam.
Black Adam is a passion project for Johnson. The former WWE superstar has lobbied hard for a live-action adaptation featuring the DC Comics anti-hero made for years, but it wasn’t until recently that Warner Bros. decided to give him a shot. Most likely, the studio’s decision to green-light Black Adam has something to do with the success of 2019’s Shazam!. Having said that, it is interesting that Black Adam is undergoing reshoots this late into the post-production stage. However, it wouldn’t surprise us if this new management wanted to add a scene or two. The WarnerMedia and Discovery merger was completed in April, which put David Zaslav in charge of the combined entity. It didn’t take long for reports of Zaslav wanting to overhaul the DCEU to emerge, with plans to renew the company’s lackluster gaming efforts. If Black Adam will introduce the Justice Society of America (JSA) and eventually crossover with Shazam!, WarnerMedia Discovery might want each outing to feel more cohesive without losing their core identities. Reshoots aren’t a bad thing. Case in point, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went through reshoots in July, and look how it all turned out. Another example is the MCU started reshoots for Thor: Love and Thunder in March, and it’s set to premiere on July 8. Even though Black Adam is part of the DCEU and not the MCU, the point still remains. If anything, this just means that the director wants to make Black Adam even better ahead of its October 21 premiere. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the upcoming DC Movie, DC League of Super-Pets. The animated feature film will premiere on July 29 and will see Johnson lend his voice as Krypto the Super-Dog. Meanwhile, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will end the year for the DCEU on December 21 following a slight delay.
