Fast forward to a year after the game launched and it appears that Biomutant is getting a native PS5 version. According to data spotted by cyber sleuths, a PS5 version of Biomutant had appeared on the PSN backend with a thumbnail of the game’s artwork. Even though it doesn’t have a release date, many are taking this as a sign that Biomutant is coming to, at the very least, the PS5 soon. If nothing else, this would be in line with Experiment 101’s hint in January that there’s more coming to Biomutant.
Technically, Biomutant is already out on the PS5. PS5 owners can enjoy the PS4 version of Biomutant via backward compatibility at an upscaled 4K resolution and 60 FPS. On the other hand, the XSX version of the game enjoys native 4K resolution at 60 FPS. At the time of the game’s launch, Experiment 101 explained that the PS5 version of Biomutant suffered from “stability” and “performance” issues. A native PS5 version of Biomutant won’t instantly turn it into a better game, but it will give PS5 owners an incentive to buy it. After all, Biomutant is part of the new PS Plus lineup for PS Plus Premium subscribers with an extensive five-hour trial. If released at the right price with extensive post-launch content to boot, Biomutant could enjoy a second lease on life later this year. The way that Biomutant is, it’s got potential to become a cult classic for its bizarre setting. Not to mention, it’s the ultimate palette cleanser for gamers who might have played a bit too much Elden Ring, which, by the way, just became FromSoftware’s best-selling title after beating Call of Duty: Vanguard. If we’re lucky, we’ll hear the PS5 version announced at the upcoming State of Play on June 2.
