We’ve collected some tips on how you can get the most out of your Longsword build in Monster Hunter Rise.

Low-Rank Builds

Farming for weapon and armor parts can be tricky if you are just starting in Monster Hunter Rise. Below are some of the Builds you can aim to farm in Low Rank to help you out with your quests.

Starting Set

The Iron Katana is one of the better longswords you can get at a Low Rank. As the Izuchi is one of the first monsters you will encounter in the game, you can pair the Iron Katana with the Izuchi armor set because this armor will give you critical eye skills. You can also add Hunter’s Vambraces and Lagombi Greaves for an additional Quick Sheath skill. You can get this armor set and weapon from 2-star quests and lower. Weapon:

Iron Katana

Armor Set:

Izuchi Helm Izuchi Mail Hunter’s Vambraces Izuchi Coil Lagombi Greaves Hunting Petalace 1

Equipment Info:

CRIT Eye Lv.4 Recovery Speed Lv.1 Quick Sheath Lv.2 20% Affinity Yellow Sharpness

Mid Set

The Mid Set is almost the same as the Starter Set. The only difference in this set is that you are using the Kulu-Ya-Ku weapon and Greaves. This set will give you an extra boost in affinity during the mid-game. You can get this armor set from 3-star quests. Weapon:

Kulu Katana 2

Armor Set:

Izuchi Helm Izuchi Mail Hunter’s Vambraces Izuchi Coil Kulu-Ya-Ku Greaves Demon Petalace

Equipment Info:

CRIT Eye Lv.4 Recovery Speed Lv.1 Quick Sheath Lv.2 41% Affinity Yellow Sharpness

End Set

This End Set uses the same armor as the Mid-Set. However, you will be using the Great Izuchi upgraded longsword weapon instead of the Kulu-Ya-Ku Katana. This weapon will increase your overall ATK to 100, giving you better damage output before transitioning into High Rank. Weapon:

Windthief Scimitar 2

Armor Set:

Izuchi Helm Izuchi Mail Hunter’s Vambraces Izuchi Coil Kulu-Ya-Ku Greaves Demon Petalace

Equipment Info:

CRIT Eye Lv.4 Recovery Speed Lv.1 Quick Sheath Lv.2 41% Affinity Yellow Sharpness ATK 100

High-Rank Builds

Once you get to High Rank, monsters will become more powerful, and you need to upgrade your armor set and weapon quickly. Below are some of the armor sets and longsword weapons you can choose to farm in Monster Hunter Rise, when you get further along.

Nargacuga

This Nargacuga set will give you maximum Attack Boost, Weakness Exploit, Quick Sheath, and Speed Sharpening. However, you will need a lot of decorations to make this build work. The Nargacuga Longsword has a naturally high affinity so you do not have to invest in the Critical Eye Skill. Instead, you can focus on maximizing the Attack Boost Skill. This weapon also has a natural white sharpness. Weapon:

Deepest Night

Armor Set:

Zinogre Helm S Barioth Mail S Rathalos Braces S Skalda Elytra S Golden Hakama Demon Petalace 3 Fatal Tempest Talisman

Equipment Info:

Attack Boost Lv.7 Weakness Exploit Lv. 3 Quick Sheath Lv.3 Speed Sharpening Lv.3 Critical Boost Lv.2 Latent Power Lv.2 Maximum Might Lv. 1 Botanist Lv. 1

Magnamalo

The Magnamalo Longsword has higher raw damage and contains a blast element to compensate for the lack of affinity on the weapon. This build is a much safer choice due to the addition of the Recovery Speed Skill. The longsword weapon has blue sharpness and with the addition of Speed Sharpening skill, you can maintain the blue sharpness during the hunt. Weapon:

Sinister Shade Sword

Armor Set:

Zinogre Helm S Barioth Mail S Barioth Vambraces S Skalda Elytra S Golden Hakama Demon Petalace 3 Fatal Tempest Talisman

Equipment Info:

Attack Boost Lv.4 Quick Sheath Lv.3 Weakness Exploit Lv.3 Maximum Might Lv.3 Recovery Speed Lv.3 Speed Sharpening Lv. 3 Critical Boost Lv. 2 Latent Power Lv.2 Critical Eye Lv.1 Botanist Lv.1 Flinch Free Lv. 1

Summary

Thanks to the changes in the Longsword move set, the builds are now more flexible. Depending on your preference or playstyle, you can focus on parrying your enemies or doing raw damage. Parry-focused builds are more centered around Quick Sheath Skills and Critical Draw, whereas if you’re aiming for a raw damage build, you can focus on increasing your Affinity using Attack Boost and Critical Eye skills.
