A Pokemon’s type is usually determined by their elemental abilities, such as Fire and Water types, or their physical appearances, such as Bug and Flying types. Each type of Pokemon has its own set of abilities, as well as strengths and weaknesses when pegged against other types of Pokemon. Most of these are based on logical setups, such as Fire-type Pokemon being weak against Water-type Pokemon, while Water-type will be weak against Electric-types. These matchups also apply to the types of moves as well: A Fire-type move such as Ember will be strong against a Grass-type Pokemon such as Bulbasaur. Below, you can find a complete list of all Pokemon types, their advantage and disadvantages against other types of Pokemon. Some Pokemon can be classified into two types and are known as Dual-Type Pokemon. However, this does not expand their set of moves by a factor of two as well. So while a Pokemon can be affiliated to two types, each of their moves will hail to one or the other type. During evolution, some Dual-Type Pokemon may lose or gain a type, such as Scyther (a Bug/Flying-type) which evolves into Scizor (a Bug/Steel-type). The only exception to these common rules is Cubone, a Ground-type Pokemon that evolves into Alolan Marowak a Fire and Ghost-type.

This set-up should allow you to cover and counter a vast majority of Pokemon types that you encounter in the wild. Any double type Pokemon should be considered the cherry on the top.
Ideal Gym Battle Builds
In every Pokemon game are always 8 gyms that you need to defeat in order to become a Pokemon master. Each gym has a theme or a dominant type. In Pokemon Sword and Shield, the gym types are as follows:
Grass Water Fire Fighting (Sword) & Ghost (Shield) Fairy Rock Dark Dragon
For every gym battle, you should configure your team in a such a way your Pokemon have an edge over the enemy. So if you’re fighting in the Grass gym, then your ideal team should be comprised of Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying or Bug-type Pokemon.
